Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC encompasses over 200 acres of Atlantic oceanfront accommodations including campsites, RV sites, rental villas and individually owned properties. With half a mile of sandy beach Lakewood Camping Resort is the perfect vacation spot and is close to shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The Challenge

Lakewood Camping Resort hosts thousands of visitors annually who eagerly line up at multiple food venues and concessions throughout the resort. According to consultant Mike Chirveno, the challenge in food service areas was guests in line were unable to read the static menu boards placed behind the order counters. This slowed the ordering process since guests were not able to see the menu items and decide what they wanted until they were at the front of the line.

The Solution

Mike originally recommended a set of Digital Menu Boards placed midway down the order queue so guests could begin to make selections and subsequently be ready to order when they reached the front of the line. He also suggested another set of Digital Menu Boards facing the area where guests were waiting for their food to be prepared. These boards would promote activities, shows and attractions elsewhere in the resort, cross-promoting and driving up attendance at those activities all the while reducing perceived wait times.

As soon as the first Digital Menu Boards arrived and the client saw the dynamic and eye-catching visual presentations designed by focus4media, they decided to replace all the static menu boards in that venue. The revised design incorporates the existing menu items, new, higher margin food combos and rotating promotional food items based on time of day in addition to the promotional activity and event content for guests waiting for their food.

The Result

“The original plan was to only place Digital Menu Boards in the primary food venue” per Mike. “However, when we replaced those static signs with the new Digital Menu Boards they looked so good, Lakewood’s General Manager Robert Clinger decided to use Digital Menu Boards in all other venues.” From an initial roll-out of 6 Digital Menu Boards Lakewood Camping Resort is now up to 20 Digital boards.
